David Lynch Returns to Showtime's Twin Peaks Revival

David Lynch Returns to Showtime's Twin Peaks Revival Twin Peaks is whole again.

A month after departing the project, David Lynch is back on board with Showtime's limited-series revival of his and Mark Frost's groundbreaking show, he and the network announced Friday night.

"This damn fine cup of coffee from Mark and David tastes more delicious than ever. Totally worth the extra brewing time, and the cup is even bigger than we expected," said David Nevins, president of Showtime Networks. "David will direct the whole thing, which will total more than the originally announced nine hours. Pre-production starts now!!"

It's a happy ending to a stalemate that had sent Twin Peaks fans into a frenzy. On April 5, the director announced he was leaving the revival because he claimed "not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done." Showtime had ordered the revival last October, with Lynch and Frost writing, and Lynch directing, all nine episodes.

But Nevins refused to let Lynch go. Last month, the Showtime chief told Adweek he was "hopeful" he could convince Lynch to return. By Friday, he had succeeded.

The news means the revival—which will once again star Kyle MacLachlan as FBI agent Dale Cooper—is still on track for a debut in 2016, marking the 25th anniversary of the original show's finale on ABC.
