Each month, Facebook provides Adweek exclusive data about the hottest topics being discussed by U.S. users of the massive social network.
As part of this Hot Topics series, Facebook's IQ division creates a U.S.-based data visualization that lets marketers see what huge digital conversations they may have missed on last month and how they might generate more engagement of their own.
It's interesting to note that 7 consumer brands—a big number compared to recent months—created significant buzz on the platform during the holidays season, including Walmart, Aldi, M&Ms, Kroger, Freshpet, Keurig and Krispy Kreme.
Most of the news was relatively positive (holiday store hours announcements, for example), while Aldi dealt with a Facebook coupon hoax and Keurig's sale to private equity firm JAB Holding Co. for $13.9 billion caused a social splash.
More generally, 26 other subjects struck a chord with Americans. Check them out below by clicking on the image to view a full-size breakdown of how Facebook chatter played out in terms of demographics and timing.
